Born in 1956 in Sungei Pelek, Sepang, he had his early primary and secondary education in Sungei Pelek. In 1978, he was accepted by Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, England, to read law and politic. After graduation, he joined Lincoln’s Inn in 1981 and graduated as a Barrister-at-law and called to the English Bar in 1982.
He chambered at Messrs. Yeow & Chin, Johore Bharu and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1983. Thereafter, he joined Messrs. Stephen Sya & Associates, Advocates & Solicitors, and was exposed to the field of conveyancing, in particular, project conveyancing and banking.
He left Messrs. Stephen Sya & Associates in 1984 and joined Messrs. Mohd Akhir & Partners the same year. He was with Messrs. Mohd Akhir & Partners for five (5) years as the solicitor in charge of litigation and left in 1989 to set-up this firm.
Mr Tan Chuan Yong has extensive legal and commercial experience and is a consultant and legal advisor to more than 500 corporations, including public-listed companies.
